Project Details
The Catapult Environmental project is a 15,000 SF industrial facility located in Aldersyde, AB, designed to address the growing need for organics processing in the Calgary and Foothills regions of Southern Alberta. This state-of-the-art composting and digestion facility transforms municipal organic waste into valuable agricultural compost. Prior to its development, organic waste in the region was either being landfilled or transported 150-350 km for disposal.
The facility is a game-changer for sustainable waste management, tackling critical environmental challenges while serving both municipal and industrial clients. Design complexities included odor mitigation strategies, such as maintaining negative air pressure and using high-speed overhead doors to prevent the release of odors. Additionally, specialty HVAC filtration systems and multi-compartment sanitary filtration ensure contaminants are properly managed.
Fire safety considerations, including clear internal pathways for emergency access, were also integrated into the design. This innovative project is setting a new standard for organic waste diversion and resource recovery in the region.
